A collaborative space at the heart of Korian

Korian means "heart" in Esperanto
Founded in 2001, Korian is a European player in the medical-social and health response sector for aging populations. Korian currently manages 216 establishments in 3 different countries (France, Italy, Germany) and works in three areas:
- Nursing homes
- Clinical follow up care and rehabilitation
- Psychiatric Clinics
Placing the Internet at the heart of company communications
Korian was already one of Smile's clients. Smile Bordeaux redesigned their website using the open source CMS eZ Publish. Smile also manages the maintenance of the site. It was therefore only natural for Korian to turn to Smile when the company wanted to redesign its Intranet. Divided into two sections "Information & News" and "Resources", the original Intranet no longer met Korian's requirements. It was no longer in line with the company's strong growth and ergonomics. There were many ambitious objectives for the new Intranet site:
- Completely redesign the "Resources" section in order to better organise this rich area of information: procedures, medical standards, hygiene, safety, technical documents etc.
- Providing easier access to news
- Maintaining an attractive institutional section
- Adding a strong collaborative dimension to improve the quality of internal projects and group work
Sharepoint, with a number of in-built modules
One of Korian's demands was to keep the same tool for developing this new Intranet: Sharepoint. Sharepoint is a program for web applications and portals developed by Microsoft, Its features are: content management, search engines, electronic document management, forums, the possibility to create forms and business intelligence statistics etc. With Smile, a specialised team and a technical project manager were mobilised for this project.
Focus on the collaborative work space
Particular effort was made to create the collaborative work space for this site. This space has different modules such as: lists of discussions, shared documents, a calendar of tasks, lists of users, useful links etc, It is very simple to use so that it is accessible to all Korian's staff. Korian's intranet was produced in under three months. A significant amount of time was spent on the design phase prior to technical developments.
