Interview
David Portron, IT director for the UCFF
" The aim of our project was to develop a platform capable of managing all the UCFF's online and offline documents - to ensure the classification and sharing of these documents. In terms of volume, this is equal to a few thousand documents.
We chose to develop our project using this tool because it is 100% concentrated on document management and does not include publication modules or photo aids that are irrelevant for us. On the other hand, Alfresco has a workflow system that was very attractive to us because it enables us to inform our groups of members about the publication of a new document. This is a real collaborative platform because members can send their documents to a dedicated mail box attached to a specified individual who receives an alert indicating that they have received a new message. This representative decides whether or not to publish the document, Finally, everyone who has subscribed to the topic of the document receives it.
Finally, the cost factor was also a determining factor in our selection of an open source tool. As this was our first approach, the risk was less for us. After having been reassured about the sustainability of the chosen tool, we launched it... with Smile!"
