Smile commits to Jahia: Beta Partner Program 6.5

[Thursday 26 May 2011]

Smile has announced its participation in the Jahia Beta Partner Program Version 6.5, Portal xCM Java J2EE Open Source.

As Jahia’s long term partner, Smile is committing to the promotion and development of the latest version of the solution: Jahia 6.5. A veritable revolution compared with its previous versions, Jahia 6.5 constitutes a major advance in the field of integration portals and CMS. For a presentation of the product, please visit the vendor’s website at http://beta65.jahia.org/.

With its Beta Partner Program, Jahia is offering training and skills transfers to a few select partners during a 3 day workshop, along with support centred on the new version, namely focusing on the modules and use of the new Jahia Studio.

‘Long time expert in portals and partner of the biggest open source publishers, Smile offers innovative, tailor-made solutions for its customers. Jahia 6.5 demonstrates the vendor’s outstanding grasp of customer needs, as illustrated by the product’s ergonomics, functional depth and technical quality. The open source components selected to revolutionise the Jahia architecture have truly remarkable potential’, declares Philippe Brière, Smile Portal Sales Manager.

Smile has rolled out a variety of open source intranet portals for exacting clients the likes of: Ile-de-France Regional Council, Centre Region (of France), AG2R La Mondiale, EDF, Voyages SNCF Technologies, City of Niort, Veolia Water, Bouygues Telecom Immobilier, Gaz et Electricité de Grenoble and many other customers of all sizes and in all business sectors.

‘The feedback from our partners and their clear motivation to participate in this major development in the Jahia project, have confirmed the soundness of our strategy for this new version. Such comments from a partner like Smile, with its recognised expertise in open source software solutions, perfectly illustrate the alignment of our products and services with the expectations of our shared customers, whose web projects go beyond the historical perception of websites, document management, portals and intranet. These projects need a modular and robust solution that allows them to communicate, share and create content and applications, regardless of their size or geographic location. Jahia 6.5 crystallises the current market “convergence” around application requirements, technologies and underlying standards, and is fully consistent with our company’s founding vision’, adds Elie Auvray, CEO of Jahia Solutions Group SA.

Jahia 6.5, a portal solution that expands the realm of possibilities

The documentation provided by Jahia asserts that: ‘As before, Jahia 6.5’s xCM enables the creation of web projects. But today’s web projects (websites and intranet sites) are becoming more and more complex and require more than mere web pages and web content: they need integrated web applications that meet specific needs and specific communities of practice. This can even entail standalone web applications to generate and handle content’.

Jahia’s technological base has now been completely revamped. And we are convinced that this overhaul will provide substantial added value to both integrators like ourselves and to our clients. Here are a few concrete examples of the advances made in this new version, which largely expand on the options for product implementation, facilitate technical integration and provide flexibility in everyday use:

  1. Workflow flexibility: integration of a jBPM engine;
  2. Simplified methods of content contribution: three content views, ‘Live’, ‘Preview’ and ‘Edit’;
  3. Productivity and code recyclability: modularisation of services and provision of a Studio;
  4. Openness: finalisation of complete storage in JCR and integration of an entirely revisited data model; and
  5. Power in service of business: in addition to the integration of portlets (Pluto) and gadgets (Shindig), Jahia 6.5 has the capacity to manage business rules using Jboss Drools.
